Emily Perrin
Hi and welcome! My name is Emily and I live in Friendswood, Texas with my husband and three spirited children. I was born in Ft. Worth, which let me clarify — is NOT Dallas, and grew up in Colorado Springs, CO. So I am a Texas girl by birth and Colorado girl by heart, best of both worlds! I love long walks on the beach, but not too long because walking on sand is hard. I love horses and dogs and a good project, whether it’s in the garden or remodeling a kitchen. I discovered a newfound love for reading and “running” later in life, although the later is still up for debate because again, it’s hard and arthritis. I love movies, but don’t want to watch or read anything that’s going to make me cry, I don’t need any help stirring up my emotions or making me sad. I can do that on my own, thank you. I’d rather go to sleep in the middle of a psychological thriller or watching Criminal Minds. I can overthink with the best of them, usually on things like curtains, lamp shades, or throw pillows…it’s a gift.
I believe we serve a good, sovereign, faithful God and faith makes things possible not easy…you will hear me say that again and again. I grew up going to church, involved in Young Life and believing, as a Christian, we are called to meet people where they are to share the love of Jesus. That we are all sinners in need of a Savior and that God is the only one who can bring fulfillment in a broken world.
This belief was never challenged more than when my twins were born prematurely at 24 weeks. Spending 5 months in the NICU, with 4 surgeries, two hospital transfers, too many infections to count, and one diagnosis of meningitis. Little did we know this would be just the beginning. The beginning of more surgeries, more hospital stays, more therapies, and more diagnoses. The beginning of a new life — a life unexpected.
I hope to bring a little joy, humor and connection through this blog. To remind us all that we are not on this journey alone, that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, that comparison truly is the thief of joy and that faith will always overcome fear.
