We made it through another week and I woke up to glorious fall weather in the 50’s this morning. I know it’s just a tease, but I’ll take! We also have mastered the diapering situation with the spica cast and there have been no causulaties…yet…just lots of messes. I’m calling it a win. The other thing I’m calling a win is managing to get Halloween up in the house. It has been scaled back this year because of everything going on, but less can be more, right — that’s what I’m telling myself. Here’s a quick update on my simple transition from fall decor to Halloween decor, with a few costume ideas thrown in there.
I’ve discovered I have a little obsession with door decorations. I have too many ideas and not enough doors. I found this bag with pom poms at At Home on clearance and fell in love. I plan on using it for other seasons too and changing it up. I stuffed it full of bright colored flowers, black roses, venus fly traps and glittered stems from Michaels for a Dia de los Muertos feel. As far as my porch pumpkin, I just added a crow and that’s that!
Check out simple before and after for our tiered tray. Reused my fall pumpkins from Hobby Lobby, added some of my finds from Target the last couple of years and done — well, plus candy corn!
The mantle and entry table got a couple additions too. Hobby Lobby had this black and white wood beaded garland that I’m sure I’ll find other uses for, and the felt pumpkin and ghost one is from TJ Maxx. I’m a sucker for vintage, felt, bird and/or turquoise decorations…it’s bordering on being problematic, fair warning. We also have a plethora of spider rings from who knows what, so I stuck them on the candles, so easy. I’m keeping it real with the TV being on because it’s New Girl and if you haven’t watch it, you are missing out! I’m pretty sure I’m on my third round watching the series…so good! My favorite addition this year is this skeleton dog from Walmart my daughter found — I mean, come on, he’s adorable with his bow and bone. I’m shocked he hasn’t been named yet.
I saw this idea for door from Dimples and Tangles last year and loved it! Grabbed giant spider web from At Home and fixed it up with a bow — when in doubt, put a bow on it, lol. It shows up better on the door to the garage and people can still see it when driving by, so win win. The blue squirrels from Fall Decor Part one — Color have made the rounds from patio mantle to dining table and back but I love those little guys.
I’ll end with a few ideas for last minute Halloween costumes. We’ve had to get pretty creative to accommodate costumes in the wheelchair, but this year has been a struggle! The kids are set on a Descendants theme and I’m at a loss with the spica cast. If you have any suggestions we could try and pull off in the next week, let me hear them! I look forward to hearing from you and seeing what your littles dress up as for Halloween.
