The last few days down here, deep in the heart of Texas, have actually felt close to fall — meaning it’s been under 90 degrees and less than 500% humidity. Having spent most of my days growing up in Colorado, fall is one of my favorite seasons. It’s the perfect balance of warmth during the days, crisp evenings and usually some snow mixed in there. Leaves actually change colors, y’all…it’s amazing. I’m usually on top of getting fall decor out, but 2020, so I’m behind, but this burst of “cooler” weather — also known as a tropical storm down here — has perked me up…until this morning. School was cancelled, mind you, for the second time since we started this year, because of possible flooding from said tropical storm Beta bringing us our “fall” weather with rain and to top it off our home health nurse called out last minute. About to make myself sound old, but when I was growing up, it took Revelation scenarios to cancel school. I remember curling up in the hallway during tornado warnings and driving to school up and down hills on ice in blizzards…cars literally bumping into each other at traffic lights and moving on to not loose momentum – craziness.
So, I’m trying to do all Hayes respiratory treatments and suction him, when the yard guys come to haul off all the limbs that have been piled up in backyard from our dead trees. I’m showing them what all to take and come back to Hayes trying to eat his neb mask, of course, and the door bell rings. It’s Chris’s dry cleaners, who are the nicest, but weren’t supposed to come for another hour — I’m still in my pj’s, just so you all have a visual — I grab his stuff and get kids to drag Bailey’s comforter down that’s colored with marker and who knows what else. Come back to Hayes…tree guys need me again, they’re going to cut down one of old trees…negotiation begins and ends quickly and I’m back to Hayes. Meanwhile, Brenham is making popcorn in between hitting baseballs in the backyard and Bailey is eating beef jerky. I grab my second cup of luke warm coffee just in time to pay the yard guys the last of my money — and we made it to 9 am — end scene.
All that to say, looks like finishing up my fall decor may not be happening today, but I’ll share what I’ve got started. The last year or two I have followed Dimples and Tangles and I love seeing her pops of color everywhere! I’ve had my eye on these adorable pink squirrels she has used for fall and the other day I found something similar at Marshall’s/Home Goods. Half my friends thought I was crazy and other was willing to see the potential and “trust” my instincts…so pretty normal response — LOL. After contemplating what color to paint (orange, kelly green, teal…) I went with my trusty blue. I started with Midnight Blue, but inside they were too dark and looked a little like vampire squirrels, so I perked them up with Ink blue.
Now, just to get some more pumpkins and use them as centerpice on the table or outdoor fireplace mantle. I’ll keep you updated and let you be the judge, but I’m liking my blue, fancy squirrels.
Here’s a peak at the other fall items going up…slowly but surely.
